wdw day 4.

early park open at animal kingdom came in handy because a very bad storm rolled in late in the afternoon while we were waiting for the bus. very strong winds and rain. we were able to see everything we wanted to and left right as the storm rolled in.

dc – day 8.

on our last day in dc we meet up with friends at the ethiopian embassy. we had some ethiopian food, watched a coffee ceremony and chased after the two cutest twins you have ever seen. after a couple hours there we were off to the natural history museum for a couple hours and then it was off to the airport to start our journey back home. we will miss dc and our dc area friends.

dc – day 7.

took it easy today. spent a good portion of the day tracking down a capital’s hockey jersey for tj. (it’s his favorite team). highlight of the day was having an ethiopian dinner with our friends. it is hard to say good bye, knowing that it will be awhile before mitiku gets to see degafa again. our last day is tomorrow and we plan to head back into dc. there we will meet up with another family from our adoption trip and partake in a coffee ceremony at the ethiopian embassy. we also plan to take in a few more sights before heading to the airport. it has been a great vacation!

dc – day 6.

we started the day off driving to anapolis, md. a cute little town. we spent the day most of the day checking out the cute little shops, had lunch and walked around the docks. after that it was off to our second get together with mitiku’s friends. the boys got to play for hours while the adults were able to continue to get to know everyone better and talk about the adoption experience.

dc – day 5.

today was the last day with our tour group. we started off at the newseum. a cool museum about everything media/news related. after that we headed up to mount vernon to see the home of george washington. after a couple hours touring around the grounds/home of george washington we were off to the airport. we picked up a rental car and the rest of the group boarded a plane bound for mn.

we headed to vienna, va to be closer to one of mitiku’s friends.

dc – day 4.

another busy day in and around dc. we started the morning off with a trip to to arlington national cemetery. we were able to witness the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknowns and the eternal flame (jfk’s gravesite) – both events yeilding by two favorite pictures of the day below.

after that it was off to the national zoo for lunch. next we were off to the capital. we spent several hours there touring the new visitors center, the rotunda, and the senate gallery. we finished our day off at the new international spy museum (tj’s favorite stop so far).

tomorrow we are headed to the newseum and a trip to mount vernon. after that its back to the airport to say good bye to the rest of our group and pick up our rental car. then we are off to vienna, va to visit mitiku’s friends!

dc – day 3.

we had an amazing day in dc. from seeing the location in ford’s theater where lincoln was shot, to standing on the steps in front of his monument where dr. king gave his “i have a dream” speech. from the chilling vietnam war memorial to the fdr monument. and in between the monuments for the marines, the air force, world war II, korean war and the capitol. and of course dinner at the historic/famous ben’s chili bowl.

my favorite picture of the day is from the vietnam war memorial.

dc – day 2.

we had a great day in dc. started the day off at the american history museum. at lunch time we headed over to the air and space museum. this is where we meet up with three families that traveled with us to ethiopia to adopt children at the same time we did. after lunch we went out to the national mall and the kids enjoyed the bright sunshine running around playing football and soccer. it was so much fun to see everyone again.

after a couple of hours everyone went there separate ways and we headed back into the air and space museum. after touring around the museum for awhile we decided to start making our way back towards the hotel to grab dinner.

on our way back we stopped at the climate rally which was taking place on the national mall, just in time to hear rev jesse jackson speak and joss stone and the roots sing/play. very cool!

lastly we hit the espn zone for dinner. tomorrow is a full day of touring around the city with our travel group. we look forward to seeing more of the city.

dc – day 1.

we arrived in dc today and had a few hours to get acquainted with our location. we took a short walk around the white house and then went to ella’s wood fired pizza for dinner. tomorrow we will be heading out to some of the smithsonian muesums.

at lunch we are so excited to be meeting up with some of mitiku’s friends from the orphanage in ethiopia. stay tuned for more pictures.
